Historic House Markers Program
Goals and Objectives:
- Educate the community to the age of various structures within the Historic District.
- Instill a sense of pride and respect in the neighborhood.
- Educate the public at large to the extent of the Historic District and its boundaries.
Criteria:
- Structures listed on the original National Register
nomination forms are eligible for recognition.
To find out if your home or building is listed,
call CPHS at 237-2538, or email CPHS
President.
- Structures 75 years or older (with verification)
are also eligable for recognition. Submit
a copy of the original deed, tax bill, or
other official document, which can attest
to the age of your structure.
Process:
- Contact CPHS to determine if your home or building is immediately eligible. Otherwise gather documentation as necessary to confirm the age of your structure.
- Download and complete the Historic Marker Application form.
- Mail form along with a check to CPHS at
P.O. Box 4862, Washington, D.C. 20008.
- $150 per marker for CPHS members; $175 per marker for non-members.
- CPHS will send a letter confirming that your structure is eligible or if further information is necessary.
- Orders for markers are accepted any time during the year. However, due to fabrication and shipping cost, the plaques will be distributed only once a year, at the CPHS annual meeting (typically in mid-May). The annual deadline for orders is March 1st.
